About

What to expect at your skin check.

What to expect

Your doctor wants you feel as comfortable as possible during your skin check and any skin cancer treatment.

Unless attending for a specific skin concern or spot, a full skin check is recommended.  This will usually involve undressing down to your underwear.  There are modesty sheets and chaperones available.

Do not wear any make-up to your appointment.

The doctor will use a dermatoscope (hand-held skin microscope) to examine spots closely.  Photographs will be securely in Dermengine software.

In between your regular skin checks it is important to return if you notice a skin mark or lump that is new, itchy, sore, bleeding or changing.

It is recommended that you examine your skin once a month with the help of your partner or a family member and that you ask your hair-dresser to check your scalp.

You will be advised how often your skin should be checked based on your personalised risk profile.
